I-RECUnderstand the I-REC standard and how to utilize international energy certificates.
About I-REC
About I-REC
I-REC is a global Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC)
that certifies electricity was generated
using renewable energy sources.I-REC(E) is an asset that confirms 1MWh of electricity was generated from a specific renewable energy source such as solar or wind.
It is operated by I-TRACK Foundation, a private non-profit organization headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands.Certificates issued according to I-TRACK Foundation's international Code standards are compatible with and recognized by major international carbon accounting standards including RE100, Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP), CDP, SBTi, and ISO.
Since its launch in 2014, it has grown rapidly and is now used in over 60 countries including all BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Expected Benefits of I-REC Issuance
Expected Benefits of I-REC Issuance
1
Contributes to corporate renewable energy procurement
- With current supply shortages, I-REC issuance for self-generation expands certificate availability, helping companies procure renewable energy.
2
Reduces electricity costs for SMEs and mid-sized companies
- SMEs and mid-sized companies with more flexible RE100 timelines can sell I-RECs, enabling them to use solar electricity at costs lower than industrial tariffs.
3
Government fiscal savings and expanded renewable energy deployment
- I-REC sales enable self-consumption solar installations without government subsidies, reducing national budget requirements while dramatically expanding renewable energy deployment.
4
Self-generation data collection and stable operations management
- Contributes to stable operations management of self-consumption solar systems currently in national statistics and regulatory blind spots.
