Carbon Neutrality has become a buzz word. 134 countries declared carbon neutrality in year 2021, and the Korean government has set carbon neutrality objectives and strategies under the “2050 Carbon Neutrality Plan”.
Carbon issues set a new economic order, and demands fundamental changes to the industrial structure.
For an export-oriented country like Korea, responding to the climate crisis has immediate implications for the survival of Korean companies and national growth.
Korean companies are actively responding to the climate crisis by declaring carbon neutrality and the RE100 campaign. Considering the fact that 87% of Korea’s greenhouse gas emission is caused by energy consumption, the most pertinent solution is to convert coal energy to renewable energy.
However, many obstacles hinder Korean companies’ uptake of renewable energy and climate change response. A shortfall in renewable energy supplies, high cost, and institutional obstacles impede theexpansion of the Korean renewable energy market.
CREF is Korea’s first non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting the corporate transition to renewable energy. Based on its expertise in climate change and renewable energy as well as its strong network with domestic and international NGOs, CREF will be a reliable partner for Korean companies’ carbon neutral journey.
